Dishwasher repairs can be complicated to perform, and must be entrusted to a licensed professional. You can however conduct a few basic simple dishwasher repairs, if you have adequate electrical and plumbing DIY skills. Never attempt dishwasher repairs without first switching off all power supply to your appliance. You can do this either by unplugging the dishwasher, or switching off the connection at the fuse box or circuit breaker. Basic repairs may be done at home, but more complex repairs should be left to a professional dishwasher repair service. Some of the most common problems that you can fix yourself at home have to do with improper cleaning of the dishwasher. This usually happens because the dishwasher does not get sufficient water. Newer dishwashers will come with a self cleaning filter that makes regular cleaning redundant. However, if you have a model with a filter that needs regular cleaning, make sure that you remove the filter, and clean it regularly. Clogged filters often lead to improper cleaning.
Cleaning problems are common with dishwashers. Most of these are caused when the machine does not receive enough water to wash the dishes. This is usually linked to a defective water inlet valve. You can find this valve at the bottom right or left of the appliance. Cleaning problems may also be caused because of clogged internal filters. This is especially true of dishwashers that have filters which need periodic cleaning. Your product manual will detail instructions for cleaning the filter. Look for a clogged drain valve that allows water to drain out while the wash cycle is on. Dishwasher repairs often involve a failure of the water to enter the dishwasher. This is again caused by a defective water inlet valve. Replace this, and the problem should correct itself. If your dishwasher fails to drain itself properly, then look for a clogged drain line. You may find the clog at the location where the drain line is attached to the garbage disposal unit or your main drain line
Sometimes you don't need dishwasher repairs to keep your machine working perfectly. For instance, use only hot water in your dishwasher to get the rest results. To make sure that the water is as hot as possible, let it run for about half a minute before you switch on the dishwasher. For better results, place the setting on a higher temperature. The water should be at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit for cleaning, but preferably not more. Keep your dishwasher running smoothly, and avoid dishwasher repair problems by cleaning the dishwasher regularly. Remove rust stains that can be caused by iron in the water. If you find corrosion on the dish racks or if the plastic coating begins to wears off, buy a repair kit to patch these. Make sure that your dishwasher is either directly wired or plugged into a grounded source. Use only hot water for the machine, and make sure that you use only dishwasher specific detergents.
